Charles Muchunku, Project officer, Nairobi
I joined Camco five years ago fresh from a physics graduate school where I was studying Photovoltaics, a solar energy technology. Since then I have worked on over 50 projects in seven countries, ranging from solar PV, wind, biogas and energy efficiency to energy policy and climate change. There is always a new and different challenge in my role, and opportunities to learn new skills and increase my knowledge. For example, in 2006 as part of Camco’s training policy, I had the opportunity to spend three weeks in our Bulgarian and London offices as part of on the job training for energy efficiency in buildings. What I have found most rewarding during my time here is the freedom to create; the opportunity to conceptualise projects, secure resources to implement them and ultimately to realise them. For a company with offices in 18 countries, there is an extraordinary sense of being a key part of the whole. There are very few companies that can compare to Camco.

Keith Regan - Associate Director, Advisory services, London

Standing next to a mile-long iron and steel production line in China, and then seeing the clean-energy power plant attached to it, really put things in perspective. If we can help the most energy-intensive industries improve, then there is real hope

Keith Regan, Associate Director, Advisory services, London
I joined Camco in 2006 when the London team comprised just a handful of set up staff. In the three years since then my role has been wide and varied. I have worked across various teams and regional offices with extensive travel to China and the United States on a range of interesting projects from major carbon industry meetings to showcasing our emission reduction projects in China to investors. My initial focus was on commercial activities, looking at the profitability of our projects and carbon portfolio structuring. This led to performance reporting to the board and formed the basis of a continued investor relations remit. As Camco moved into its acquisition phase in 2007 I undertook the commercial due diligence for the ESD merger as well as the strategic review of further M&A opportunities during that year.2007 also saw my role diversify into corporate communications, heading the development of a marketing team to grow and develop the brand. More recently I’ve been heavily involved in establishing the strategy consulting service whilst looking at future growth opportunities and strategic options for Camco as part of the corporate strategy team."There are two qualities at Camco that distinguish us from other companies. The first is the passion everyone who works here has for the environment, and our ability to make a difference. The second quality, is that we’re always ready to ‘get our hands dirty’ in the detail of projects around the world. There's a lot of work to do, but if we can help the most energy-intensive industries improve, then there’s real hope. That's something everyone here shares."

Rachel Child - Senior Projects Manager, China

About two years ago I was seconded to our China office which has been an amazing experience

Rachel Child, Senior Projects Manager, China
Variety has definitely been the defining element of my career with Camco since I joined five years ago. I started out as an analyst within the UK division, working predominantly on energy efficiency measures and installing renewable energy in social housing, but also delivering a number of carbon management programmes in both the public and private sector.About two years ago, I was seconded to Camco out in China, which has been an amazing experience. As a CDM (Clean Development Mechanism: Kyoto Protocol market mechanism) project manager, I’m responsible for a whole range of projects including coal mine methane, renewable energy and iron and steel energy efficiency. I still do some consultancy work as well, which gives me a great deal of variety and allows me to work with people across the business, both in China and throughout the world. I love the variety of my role and the opportunities I’ve had over the last few years. Who knows what will be coming next?
